Hitler actually fought Communists; Stalin actually fought Nazis; how much credit should these gentlemen have gotten?Minimal, but we needed Stalin's cannon fodder to help destroy the Nazis. Given that the foreign policy establishment at Foggy Bottom is run by idiots of both sides versus hardcore realists, we're going to be stuck backing the Salafists when we should just accept the realities on the ground. I'd much rather have Assad running Syria than some "Arab" democracy, and I'd much rather have Iranian fighting the "rebels" and "ISIS" than collapsed Syrian regime leading to a Salafist state on the borders of the Golan. |
