There's also the legal concept of something being inherently dangerous, wherein the defendant is strictly liable regardless of fault. So if courts find that pit bulls are inherently dangerous, their owners would be found liable for injuries caused by their dogs, automatically: the plaintiff would need only to prove that the dog caused the injury, the dog was owned by the defendant and that the Plaintiff was damaged.

This is what some lay people in this thread appear to be advocating for pit bulls.

In New York, dog owners are not responsible for injuries caused by dogs unless the owner knew or should have known the dog to have vicious propensities.
