Heh. Feel free to think that.

I'd go with a more convincing defense myself:

- Yes, it's quite possible that the Russians engaged in illegal activities. That's not surprising - they don't have our interests at heart.

- However, there is no evidence anyone in the Trump campaign helped them in any way. And if by chance one of them did, he absolutely was not authorized by the candidate to do so.

- There is also no evidence their activities changed the outcome of the election in the slightest.

But I guess the target electorate doesn't need to be convinced with a well-thought-out rebuttal. They are easier to convince by just calling everyone else a liar.
