Michael Crichton put this best: "Free markets don't guarantee safety. Only regulation does that. If you want a safe stock market, you need the SEC. If you want safe drinking water and clean air, there has to be an EPA. If you want to fly on a safe, airworthy airplane, the FAA better be on the job. If you want safe meat and poultry, there must be inspectors. Keeping the strong from squashing the weak is the purview of the Justice Department." To that I would add, if you want our country safe from espionage and mobsters (among many other things), you need the FBI, and if you want disaster relief after tornadoes, earthquakes, or super hurricanes (like Sandy), FEMA is a must. Oh, and without a diplomatic agency like the State Department, we end up at war. Tell me again, how these executive and judicial safeguards are "unconstitutional, anti-citizen, and un-American"... |
