I disagree to the extent that such a degree of socialism and government control of the economy is impossible without oppression, even ignoring that government control of the economy is itself "oppressive," I mean that one can't sustain hard socialism without totalitarianism. It's why the Soviet Union fell after glasnost. Once the people were relatively free to speak, socialism could not be maintained. |
