Actually, I think it's possible in rare cases for someone to deliberately vote for someone with whom they disagree on every single issue without exception. There very well could be a valid reason to do so.Making a selection in the voting booth often involves not only what a candidate said on the campaign trail (and prior), and not even only on the weight of the issues as seen by the voter, but on how the voter realistically sees the next x years playing out with that politician in office. Let's say you have your top "pet" issue, with one politician for it, and the other against it. But you do not see a path toward change (or at least you see the same change or the same result occurring) no matter who wins. Even though it is your top issue, you may dismiss it while making your selection, because you see other issues on which your vote could actually make a difference. The selection process by the individual voter can be so intricate that you cannot possibly judge someone's character based merely on the resulting bubble they fill in. There is also true and genuine error (non-malicious) in which the person may not even be so sure they are making the right choice. When the prejudging of half or nearly half of a country stops, when we remember that there are more than two types of people in said country, then we can start healing the wounds of the nonsense of the past year or so. |
