I agree, in the beginning he tried to be bi-partisan on Obamacare. He co-opted a reasonable Republican healthcare plan in the hopes of full support and it sailing through congress. Clearly he underestimated how petty party politics is, and didn't understand negotiating 101: start with the extreme and let the opposition "win" concessions and pass a whittled down version, which unbeknownst to them is what you really wanted in the first place. If he had done that I'm pretty sure we'd have gotten ACA + public option (Medicare for all) and it might not be falling apart right now.That said, what we got has some glaring holes in it which are only going to get worse over time - when people who used to have affordable care are now finding themselves run through the ringer on premiums, clearly there's a problem. |
