Re: DC Police forbidden to use body cameras at Inauguration Day protests

The Republican attitude toward Russia seems to have gone from one extreme to the other.

On the one hand, we should always be discussing and negotiating with Russia. They are a major country and have lots of nuclear weapons, and we should do the best we can to avoid unnecessary hostility that could provoke them into possibly dangerous actions. "Evil Empire" talk was never particularly helpful.

On the other hand, we shouldn't roll over and play dead and allow them to do things that are contrary to our interests. OK, their taking over Crimea didn't really hurt us. But it was right for us to make a big fuss because if they get too encouraged and invade a Baltic state it will destabilize Europe and that will really hurt us. Therefore we have to make it clear that they will suffer consequences such as more severe sanctions if they meddle too much in the Baltic states or Ukraine.
