In terms of purchasing power, it is a reduced wage since it has not kept pace with inflation. The $2.50 that it was in the mid-late 1970's would be about $10 - $11 today.

As far as devalued currency goes, unless you are converting to foreign currency for a trip, so what ? We are about the same against Canada as last year, about 77 cents, which is much better than at the height of the financial collapse in the 2009 - 2011 period when it was on par and up to $1.07. The dollar has done fairly well.
