She'd actually be a whole lot safer given what's doing security these days. One of the biggest hack vectors is ... the antivirus software itself! Add in badly configured routers and (ahem, kaff) "firewalls" and it explains why security is such a mess these days.Here's the real problem ... most of the hardware is made in China now. Firmware can be designed with backdoors that nobody will find, and security tools can't scan it. Most of the antivirus and antimalware companies have their labs in Russia, India, China, Ukraine, Romania (home of "Guccifer" LOL), Turkey, Brazil and Phillipines. The folks who do the analysis decide what they cover, and what they don't. When we sold BOClean to COMODO, we saw many of our own detections for unfriendly nations' spyware vanish out of the detection database. I still work with samples of malware and it's amazing what doesn't get detected at all. If your defenses don't work, now what? I run my own servers. Nobody's gotten in yet. :) |
