OK, I'll bet I'm posting more stuff everybody knows, yep #44 needs to go unconditionally (& V.E. day is just around the corner - 4 days), but prior to its use by Nazi Germany, the Swastika did not have associations with evil at all; which of course sounds unbelievable to us.

It's use goes back to antiquity, it was even supposed to be a good luck sign, and it has been found IIRC as a symbol in American Indian designs.

I have a taxicab (USA) history book, that shows a photo from the early or mid 1920s of a cab, that has a swastika on the side of one door - it was just seen as another graphic.

I have seen a group picture of a high school girls' sports team in Canada. Again taken well before the 1930s, maybe even before 1920 (?). They are wearing these baggy long sleeve sweaters with Swastikas on the front of each. My first gut association, was that the photo looked like some Hitler youth sports group, even though the caption said otherwise....

It's still used as a graphic in India. I saw back issues of a small size Indian medical journal (6"x9" more like a paper booklet) in an academic library. In the lower right hand side of the corner of each issue, was a Swastika, set against a solid color background, which changed color with each monthly issue. To me, it looked a bit weird, like 'what's wrong with this picture; why is there a Swastika on the cover?' I guess that somehow, in spite of WW II it's still seen as a graphic design there.

It's association with evil been automatic for over eight decades.
