I never said I hated America. But Wright does have a point when he talks about the genocidal slaughter of Native Americans during Westward Expansion, the horrific toll of chattel slavery over two centuries, from the early 1600s through the end of the Civil War, and the cruel internment of the Japanese, most of whom were American citizens, during WWII. Except for a few very radical individuals, German and Italian-Americans weren't similarly imprisoned without cause or trial during the war.Black people were systematically terrorized (by the KKK, many of whose members were the judges, cops, and prosecutors who were supposed to be protecting them) and segregated by law for 100 years after the South surrendered, were subject to hideous medical experimentation in the Tuskeegee Syphilis Study, and were deliberately kept out of better housing, schools, and employment until relatively recently in our history. All of these things in Wright's statement, are matters of irrefutable historical FACT. |
