But the reason LGBT people aren't considered a "Class", is that they aren't seeking special rights, only the equal protection of the laws already available to everyone else.That said, Prop 1 (HERO) should never have been put on the ballot--rights aren't supposed to be subject to a popular vote. The ordinance would have reinforced the FACT that once a transgender person has transitioned, they are now legally the new gender, and as such, have the right to use gender-appropriate facilities in public accommodations. It astonishes me how ignorance and fear can so easily sway the minds of the electorate... |
