Since it works in the new account, your original account is hosed. Only real solution (according to Microsuck) would be to copy your stuff over to that new user account and trash the old one. It's broken.

Don't feel bad, happens rarely in OS X as well and that's the solution there too if you don't want to reinstall anything (on EITHER OS) and start over. "Nuke and repave" is about the only option when things get fusterclucked. One more reason why I'm glad I use KNOS myself.
