You expect the carrier to update your phone with gigs of data that YOU are not going to be paying for.

Actually, I "expect" that they not install their bullshit on my phone in the first place. Yet they do anyway...

Are you appreciating the downside of android yet?

That carriers install bloatware isn't a downside of Android per se. There are plenty of bloatware-free versions like Replicant and Cyanogen. Yes, I'd have to root my phone and unlock the bootloader to install them, but at least that's easier to do than if I had an EyePhone.

By the way, where are the modified versions of iOS? If it were as open source as you say, it should have sprouted a couple by now.

We push our updates out over wifi or through itunes, and completely bypass the carriers who are not only not going to give you that free lunch, but are going to charge you for it.

Google does the same via Play Store for the proprietary components they control.

The problem is that while the core of Android is open source, most "Android" phones actually use a proprietary fork laden with carrier and manufacturer bloatware so that if a problem is found in the original open source code it takes forever for the patch to filter down.

Nexus phones get updated just as well as Apple's do— and if iOS was truly open source and a bunch of other companies made phones running iOS variants, those phones would have the same restrictions on updates that the Samsungs and Motorolas do.

Diss Apple all you want, we're not google.

Dissing one does not preclude dissing the other.
