It's just that people who are moral but also religious have to fit their religion into their morality and ignore the fact that their God is described by their own holy books as a genocidal monster.The Catholic Church actually has a clever way of dealing with that issue. The dubious passages of the Bible are never read at services and never taught in ordinary religious education. (I'm sure you'd read them if you took a class in the Old Testament at Fordham, say.) So most Catholics don't consciously realize they are there. I still get a bit shocked when I see a quote of one of the more egregious passages. |
