Don't forget that the underemployed play a large role in reducing the official numbers.

If you have a college degree and you work part time for minimum wage, you're still counted as "employed."

Since most of the jobs added to the economy over the last few years have been minimum wage, part time, or both, I'd suspect that this skews the numbers considerably.
