Just another example of how we've become a chicken hawk nation. Soldiers are venerated as heros, yet we consistently allow (mostly) Southern congressional delegations to make determinations regarding their equipment which results in their using subpar stuff. Austal's LCS is a prime example. They have no business building a Frontline warship, but they could make money and kick it back to the Alabama congressional delegation, so we bought their wholly inadequate weapons.

The hell of it is that a strong military follows from a strong economy. We squander so much of the budget on the military, which does nothing to improve the economy, yet allow infrastructure to crumble, despite the vital role it plays in our economy.
