Precisely!

One of the biggest problems in poor nabes is that because all of the cuts to TANF and other food programs, they depend heavily on "food banks" which have food and other products that were donated. Overwhelmingly, their shelves consist of some of the most gawd-awful canned and boxed crap that nobody in their right mind would want to eat. But largely, that's all they've got. :(

One of the most useful programs in many cities, and especially around here is trucks that deliver actual vegetables and fruit and other nutritional food from farms. There are many of these as volunteer efforts in urban areas, and we need a whole lot MORE of these.

Many of the local supermarkets in poor areas and the corner stores just don't have the shelf space to carry real, nutritional food, it can spoil quickly and there's not much markup to it. Therefore even these resources don't have enough real food for the community on their shelves either. That's a serious issue.

Didn't bother to watch the talking neck show you linked to, but know the situation and have seen how our local farmers help to contribute here, and have seen similar in many other American cities as well from folks in the community who know the situation and have taken it upon themselves to DO something about it. God bless them!
