One of the last 1/4 inch reel-to-reel offered by Lafayette Radio recorded B/W video got you about fifteen minutes but who had a need?
The first Sony BetaMax with an internal TV tuner changed everything.

Technicolor had this system we called the 'fishbowl'....motion picture film cassettes spot scanned into video. Then there was RCA 'Selectevision'....basically a 33rpm record with seven times the tracks...heavy skipper. NAB cassettes were pre-BetaMax but nobody was interested when you could get TV for free off-the-air.

Why would anyone want a XEROX machine when you had carbon paper?
