I wouldn't call Afghanistan "salvageable." That chunk of land has been a mess for thousands of years. Three great empires fell trying to conquer it and we're angling to be the fourth.A war in Afghanistan was a mistake from the start. The only reason to go into the country at all was to capture Osama bin Laden, which could (and should) have been done with a surgical strike, just like the one that ultimately killed him in Pakistan after years of trying to conquer Afghanistan. |
