Not going was the default in that era. When I went to my wife's 20th high school reunion (1968 grad -- height of the war) there was exactly ONE person who had been in the service AT ALL -- he was in Navy in the same era). He was also the husband of one of the grads.My wife had always told me that a member of her class had been killed in Vietnam. She learned at the reunion that he DID die while in the service, but it was in a civilian auto accident stateside. |
