Blasphemy!The reason why Goldwater had it with Falwell and company (and same for me) is that they were trying to create a protestant US based on the evangelical religion. A pure Talibanization of America if you will, no place for anyone BUT their religion to live in. Goldwater and many others realized that there was this little thing in the Constitution called the "establishment" cause and that is exactly what Falwell and kids were trying to do. If you would prefer to live in a nation run by the clerics, I'll gladly chip in for a ticket to Iran for you. Goldwater was one of the last standing defenders in the republican party at the time for a government of and by the PEOPLE, and not the charlatan clerics. |
