In 1789, guns were melee weapons— without rifling, you couldn't shoot accurately at a distance ("Don’t fire till you see the whites of their eyes!") and since you had to spend several minutes reloading your gun after each shot, you couldn't afford to miss.

You can't possibly claim that the 2nd Amendment was meant to cover modern firearms.
