The image of G-d doesn't refer to a physical image.According to Exodus 33.23, he has at least one hand, a face, and a "back parts". (Just in case there was any doubt, v11 made it very clear that God spake unto Moses face-to-face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.) He presumably also has feet, as he walked in the Garden of Eden in the cool of the day (Genesis 3.8) before standing next to Moses on some ambiguously-named mountain in Arabia (Exodus 34.5), and then walking around in the Israelite camp in the wilderness (Deuteronomy 23.14 – certain versions mistranslate this instance, but a look at the previous verse should make it perfectly clear what G-d did not wish to step in). It's a much more meaningful question whether G-d has a left hand, and if he ever did. |
