Egypt is not blockading Gaza.Egypt is restricting the border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. That's not a blockade. Regardless of how I feel on the subject, it's generally accepted that countries can control their borders and can control the flow of goods and people within their borders. Israel restricts the border crossing between Gaza and Israel. That's not a blockade either. However, Israel is also restricting transport of goods and people into or out of Gaza by air and sea. That is a blockade, because goods or people entering Gaza by air or sea do not transit Israel and are therefore not subject to Israel's legitimate control. Egypt is not imposing any restrictions on people who wish to enter Gaza without transiting Egypt, nor is Egypt preventing goods from entering Gaza when those goods do not enter Egypt. As such, Egypt is not blockading Gaza. |
