What evidence do you have that the private sector has any interest in financing the rebuilding of our infrastructure?

For that matter, when has private industry ever self financed the construction of a significant fraction of our transportation infrastructure? The only thing I can think of would be the first railroads and some toll roads from the 1850s. All the western railroads were built with infusions of capital from the government in the form of land and homestead act settlers. Government has always been intimately involved in the building of transport infrastructure, so what compelling case can you make for this to change?
