If the City of New York was never changed from it's former name of New Amsterdam, and New York State had that change, it would be clearer, as the New York (City) Jets or Giants would be the New Amsterdam Jets or Giants, who play in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It's no different than the Buffalo Bills playing in Orchard Park, or the Dallas Cowboys playing in Arlington.In fact those are further from the center of their respective cities than the New York Giants/Jets are from their namesake city, the only difference being the New York City border also borders a state border. If the Jets or Giants played in Babylon, New York, for example, they would be just as outside of their namesake city as they are now. The state name has nothing to do with either of these team's names, they are the New York CITY Jets and Giants, not the New York State Jets/Giants. |
