There are all sorts of political reasons for not going after the witnesses who obviously perjured themselves. It would just keep the situation inflamed for another year.What is wrong with the obvious explanation: the DA realized he had a weak case with unreliable witnesses, and would suffer less political damage this way than if he prosecuted and lost. The officer's story was essentially "I was so scared to death I overreacted," which while not reflecting well on his character also makes a good defense against criminality. |
