Well, when you grow up you'll learn about this thing called "logic" and when you do you'll understand that a group defined by ideology and action whose members join it voluntarily is not the same thing as a group arbitrarily defined by birth. Here's your homework: Suppose I grab 10 random people whose first name is Steve or some variant thereon, like Stephen or Stephanie. I call them Group Steve. Next, I grab 10 random people who are in prison for murdering a child between the ages of 2 and 4. I call them Group Baby Killer. My associate, Terry, remarks: "Why would you want anything to do with Group Baby Killer? Don't you know they all murder children?" My other associate, Gonad, says: "That's not fair! How is it OK to stereotype the members of Group Baby Killer but abhorrent to do the same thing to Group Steve?" Who has made a valid point? Terry or Gonad? Please note that the statement: "They all murder children" is not true of Group Baby Killer, as one of that group's ten members has been wrongfully convicted of murdering a child that he did not, in fact, kill. |
