I did not imply that killing black (or any race for that matter) teens, was a spectator sport. What I did imply was that too many people of color view the legal system as a spectator sport. They get angry and riot if their team doesn't win. A grand jury found that the evidence presented in this case warranted an indictment against this police officer. This is the system that most of us live under and accept. You were not privy to the evidence presented to the grand jury. Neither were the protesters, rioters or looters. The grand jury case was presented by a prosecutor who's only job it was to get an indictment. Clearly, after several months of hearing evidence, the grand jury was unable to justify an indictment in this case. Based on that, one must conclude that for whatever reason, the shooting of Michael Brown, unfortunate as it was, was also found to be justified. Therefore, there is no reason to loot or riot if you believe in our system of justice. |
