Why shouldn't they be?Because humanity grows and progresses as years and centuries pass and there's absolutely no reason why the people of today should be constrained by the ignorance, prejudices, and faults of long-dead ancestors. Any country which was old enough was founded on the principle of might makes right— we conquered it, so it's ours. Does that mean they should return to colonialism? Many countries were founded on the principle of an absolute dictator's divine right to rule. Should they oppose democracy? America was founded on the innate superiority of white men. Should we bring back slavery? There are a million things that make any country unique. Clinging to the abhorrent ideas of primitive ancestors is not necessary in that regard and wouldn't be worth it if it was. |
