The notion of assuming children belong to their parents' religion is absurd and brainwashing them into it is evil. That said, I did once have a religion— it was a homebrew religion I made up myself and although I didn't know to call it a religion at the time, it meets the general criteria to be considered one. No one brainwashed me into it, I just decided it was true around when I learned to talk (or maybe earlier, but no one would know) and grew out of it by the time I was 5 or 6. Of course, being as I made up the religion myself I was obliged to write its holy text. Though seemingly a daunting task for a young child, it was actually deceptively easy— most holy texts are heavily plagiarised so all I had to do was rip off my favourite books and shows and narrate them to my dad. I actually still have the "holy text" squirreled away in a distant corner of a hard drive that hasn't been spun up in years (or maybe a floppy disk) but I don't think you'd be interested in a motley selection of books, shows, and cartoons misinterpreted by a preschooler and mixed with a random assortment of trains and badly mangled "history." |
