OK, but to use your example, it took 116 years for the Hundred Year War to end - and I'm not sure having John Kerry running back and forth between the English and the French trying to make peace would have done any good or made it any shorter. Sometimes, circumstances just don't lend themselves to a nice neat "permanent" solution, and trying to force such a solution only makes things worse. In such case, trying to keep the conflict on a low simmer, rather that having it flaring up, is the best that can be hoped for - and hopefully, a new generation that is ready for peace will eventually grow up and take over.I'm not saying Israel has never done anything wrong or stupid - it absolutely has. My point was that the the other side has to face reality and make a decision to make peace with Israel as a Jewish state before any real progress can be made. The ball is in their court. subfan |
