A few months back my silent burgler alarm went off and I didn't know about it. The doorbell rings and I answer it and two cops are on the front stoop. I'm wearing an old tee shirt and shorts and the first thing they ask is to see some ID. I ask what for and they explained the alarm went off, then asked again for ID. I showed them my drivers license to prove I lived there. They thanked me and reminded me that if there was another false alarm within 12 months I would have to pay a fine. I thanked them for responding and they went on their way.No fuss, no muss, no drama. Two weeks ago my neighbor, who is black, locked himself out of the house and in trying to get back in, tripped his alarm. He came over to my house and asked if he could call his wife to get a spare key. After calling we chatted for a few minutes then he went back to his home to wait for his wife. While waiting the police rolled up. I watched and listened from my front stoop. Same conversation; Barry showed the cops his ID and after they spoke for a couple of minutes his wife drove up and the cops drove off. No fuss, no muss, no drama. |
