Although most Israelis who light candles each week wouldn't then go on to do what you did following, they light candles weekly AND consider themselves to be secular. And attend a seder each year. And have meals on all the other holidays. And build a Sukkah. And fast on Yom Kippur and go to shul for some part of the day. That sounds like a pretty religious secular population, doesn't it?I did at least half of those things for years and I still do some of them today. You can't determine someone's religiosity from their celebrations. Do they keep Shabbat or just light the candles? Keep kosher? Honestly believe in magic gods? Take any actions on the assumption that a god commands it? |
