"the tendency to perceive or behave toward members of a racial category based on the lightness or darkness of their skin tone"..Back in the 40's olive skinned Italians weren't considered white.At least in the NYC waterfront area. You think racism is alive & well now. No denial here. However, its not as bad as it was. You can't deny that either. Example...go back a few decades, go down to Mississippi where a black kid would bump into a white girl, nothing more. The poor black kid would be strung up or meet a violent death some other way. Now THATS racism. If you don't think that progress has been made in terms of race relations in the past few decades, then you just can't or won't think. None is so blind as those who refuse to see. Just ask OJ. |
