Well if you ask religions how they determine their own membership, then I'm probably Mormon, since the Mormons like to retroactively have always baptised people by proxy or summat. I probably also belong to a dozen-odd weird cult religions which, due to their size and obscurity, feel the need to use extremely loose definitions of membership. There might be a Christian sect that claims me as well, but I forget the details— something about being saved by good works, so since I'm a good person I'm actually secretly part of their religion even though I think it's ridiculous.OK, so I emailed both of my parents and haven't gotten a response yet. I did manage to talk to my sister, but she said a bunch of stuff about how Judaism can refer to a religion, an ethnicity, and a cultural background and then went into a long rant about Israel. Since you asked me about "converting" in at least one of your posts, I assume you're talking about the religion in particular, in which case I stand by my previous assessment that no one can be born into a religion, no matter what that religion's own dictates say. |
