Except for the new car thing, that list actually *isn't* a bad idea. If the government covers the baseline expenses for everyone in the US, minimum wage laws become unnecessary: if the job pays so little for the work required that literally doing nothing is better, then that is what will happen. Unemployment insurance would no longer be necessary either. It also would reduce crime by providing another option than: "well, I can either become homeless, or commit various crimes for money until I get caught, and then it's 3 hots and a cot."Right now it seems like a bad idea. In 30 years when automation and outsourcing have eliminated half the American jobs, something like that will be necessary to avoid a police state or anarchy. |
