I think the appropriate term would have been something like "completely unsubstantiated."Meh. Then it's just a quibble over semantics. And in the post you reference, there was in fact extensive evidence that the allegation was untrue. So it is not an analagous situation. At worst, it's a question of degree— how much evidence is available, and how extraordinary the claim happened to be. Is there some particular threshold between "false" and "completely unsubstantiated?"  |
