Congress has been Democrat for decades upon decades, and when the Republicans booted them, they were only slightly less liberal. "Power" is not the executive branch, and even if it were, the majority of Republican presidents have leaned quite far left; even Reagan had a lot of left-wing in him in spite of his "Democratic Party left me" rhetoric. |
