Being homosexual is understood to be innate these days. Therefore, according to Orthodox teaching, being attracted to the same sex in and of itself is not a sin. Acting upon that impulse is. The teachings go on to say that such a person receives extra merit from G-d because they must resist that urge.

OTOH, AFAIK, it is not innate to be a thief, murderer, or adulterer, and one can be cured of those afflictions.

I should note that what I wrote above is one line of Jewish teaching, it isn't necessarily the line of teaching that I believe myself.
