Give up the boomer-bashing already.Teachout is over-generalizing and overreaching. Every generation has nostalgia for its youth. He says "My impression is that [boomers would] much rather watch sitcoms than read novels, go to the opera or listen to jazz." Bullshit. I am a boomer. I like jazz much more than rock. I read novels. I rarely watch sitcoms. (Though opera? Feh. Who, of any generation, goes to the opera? This remark gives away Teachout's elitist pretensions.) My older son was born in 1980. He waxes nostalgic over 80s and 90s music and shows. So what? |
