Not too surprising, given that Mandela's primary help came from Soviet Jews. It is that that makes me think that his alliance with Communists was at least initially made out of circumstance than actual agreement with their platform...noting that the Western world didn't really pay attention until the early 1980s. Had any Western country paid attention sooner, I think that there may have been a different result. Mandela never really forgave Israel (or the West) for ignoring apartheid for so long. |
