Ah, but if Utah recognized polygamous marriages as valid, could the US still kick Utah out of the Union? I think so.Nope. the Union in one, indivisible and perpetual. Once you're in, you're in. Put another way, if such a condition were still valid AFTER it has been admitted, it would give Utah a legal roadmap to secession. There are no such roadmaps. |
