Either way, the polygamists' joy is premature. The Court did not recognize any right for people to marry whomever they want. It's just said that the Federal Government has no right to not recognize marriages that are otherwise legal in these United States. No different than some States allowing marriages between first cousins and others not doing so. The Feds recognize them either way for federal purposes and benefits. The issue of polygamy would only come up if some State were to recognize multi-person marriages. |
