John L gave you one answer.They match aircraft to the route structure. You can`t fly a 777 JFK-BOS and make a profit. They also don`t have hourly departures to Tokyo. So aircraft sits for 24 hours until the next flt to Tokyo to get the most bang for the buck(Profitablity). However while sitting on the ground it`s not making any money, but in this scenario it`s not losing money either. Unless there are unschecduled Mx cost... |
