Posted by Train Dude on Wed Jun 19 15:10:35 2013, in response to TWA 800, posted by Dave on Tue Jun 18 22:02:46 2013. Why did a trans-Atlantic flight take off from a US Airport with it's center fuel tank empty. A typical trans-Atlantic crossing by a 747-400 can use as much as 36,000 gallons of fuel. The fuel Max capacity for a 747-400 without the center tank is about 48,000 gallons. At a consumption of 1 Gal/Sec that means just 3 hours of reserve fuel (approx). Again, why was that center tank empty as reported? |
