I've noticed that city governments run better when there is a mix of Republicans / Democrats in office (as compromises have to be made and the "ideological" issues that plague state / federal governments really don't apply to cities as much). There also are checks and balances over stupid ideas. Most of the cities in the Phoenix area have a pretty 50/50 (or close) split.Tucson is a horribly run city (with a local government that is almost 100% Democratic). Likewise, the one party rule in NYC and SF has made some people happy but has resulted in a lot of mis-management. |
