Very fortunate that the collapse occurred during daylight and in a relatively rural stretch of roadway. At night, you'd probably have many more cars drive off until emergency vehicles were on scene.It sounds like the preliminary cause is an oversize truck hitting the bridge (presumably traveling under the span at one point). One has to hope that there is more to the incident than that alone -- otherwise we've got some really brittle bridges out there. |
